Urban Indigenous Youth and Education Centre | Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh Nations
This project was conceived through the integration of the Urban Native Youth Association and Nicola Valley Institute of Technology, two established and complementary Indigenous organizations, to improve services to, and educational outcomes for, Indigenous youth and adults in an urban environment.
The goal is to deliver an integrated program that includes youth education, post-secondary education and skills training, health and wellness programming, counseling, Elders, arts and sports programming, affordable housing and childcare services.
Structurally, this project involves the design of a 25-storey tower with a 6-storey podium within the City of Vancouver, providing housing and community services for urban Indigenous Peoples. The 318,000 ft² structure includes long-span spaces, underground parking, and a hybrid concrete, steel, and select mass timber system.
